Wyatt Mineheine has given the Minnesota Wilderness its third 1 st star divisional honor of the season.
The forward from Proctor, MN, recorded six points for the Wilderness last Friday and Saturday to earn the Bethel University West Division 1st Star of the Week award.
In its two games last weekend, the Wilderness combined to score 13 goals – falling on the road to the Alexandria Blizzard, 8-5, Friday, before bouncing back with an 8-4 home win Saturday over the Willmar Warhawks. Mineheine posted three goals on Friday and scored two more times Saturday while adding an assist.
It is the third first star of the week award of the season for Mineheine, who began the campaign with the Texas Roadrunners, where he captured the top divisional honor two times while skating in the NA3HL’s Southeast Division.
Mineheine currently tops the NA3HL in goals with 63, and his 3-goal outburst last Friday gives him 10 hat tricks on the season. In 38 games, the former Proctor Rail is second in the league with 109 points. In 19 contests with Minnesota, Mineheine has 18 red lighters to lead the team, while his 30 points are second highest.
More details on his performance last weekend can be found on the NA3HL site.
Mineheine joins Tommy Perkins and Tyler Starich as West Division 1 st Star of the Week award recipients for Minnesota this season. Perkins and Starich earned their awards in back-to-back weeks in December.
The Wilderness (9-25-0) are on the road for their next six games. This weekend (Jan. 30-31), they face off against the Minnesota Moose, Friday, in Blaine, MN, before going to Willmar, Saturday. The Wilderness return to the Eveleth Hippodrome Feb. 14 to again take on the Moose.
