ABOUT THE MINNESOTA wilderness
The Minnesota Wilderness are a Tier III Junior ice hockey team competing in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), sanctioned by USA Hockey. Based in Eveleth, Minnesota, the team proudly calls the Historic Eveleth Hippodrome home. As part of a shared ownership with the NAHL’s Minnesota Wilderness in Cloquet, we are dedicated to developing young players and creating opportunities for advancement to the next level. Our program emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and a commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential on and off the ice.
Our Home: The Historic Eveleth Hippodrome
The Minnesota Wilderness NA3HL are proud to call the Historic Eveleth Hippodrome – affectionately known as “The Hipp” – our home ice. Built in 1922, the Hippodrome holds the honor of being the oldest indoor hockey rink still in use in Minnesota, and it continues to serve as a cornerstone of Iron Range hockey culture.
Over the decades, this legendary barn has seen the rise of some of the greatest names in American hockey. Just steps away from the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, the Hipp has been home to 12 Hall of Famers, including icons like Frank Brimsek, John Mayasich, John Mariucci, and Sam LoPresti. Steeped in tradition, the rink offers players and fans alike a true “Old Time Hockey” experience that can’t be replicated.
Located at 501 Douglas Ave in Eveleth, MN, the Hippodrome isn’t just a rink, it’s a living monument to Minnesota’s rich hockey heritage. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a first-time visitor, stepping into the Hipp is like stepping into history!
